I think that cycling is the perfect compromise expedition. Let me explain:

- It can be as tough or as easy as you like. You push your own limits, unlike climbing K2 when the mountain decides if you are strong enough, talented enough and lucky enough to get up.
- It is so varied - hot, cold, cities, deserts. The world is yours!
- It is a great way to meet people. Arrive in a little village on a huge bike and in minutes you will be chatting to new people. And people are so kind when you travel by bike - you get invited to stay with families and that is where you really start to learn.
- It is cheap way of travelling. I spent £7000 on a 4-year expedition. That's a bit cheaper than a South Pole journey!
- It is easy to start - everyone can ride a bike. Just get on and go...

Thanks Mikael for the kind words!
Another interesting article - Kazakhstan is high up on my list of places to travel through. Although for that I'm thinking of swapping the bike for a horse....
