Expedition Arabia – 7780 miles/12476 kilometres on foot and camel
The main purpose of the expedition is to build bridges of understanding and knowledge between the Arab countries themselves, and also between the Islamic east and the European west. Perhaps the most important mission of our time, as the gap between the two cultures is widening and fear and fanaticism are growing stronger.
From one of the coldest expeditions to one of the hottest!
The aim is becoming the first persons in history to cross the two hottest places on earth: Sahara and the Arabian Desert. From Oman to Morocco along the southern, most arid routes. 7780 miles and 24 months of sandstorms, mirages, an enormous ocean of dunes more than 1000 feet high, poisonous scorpions and snakes, extreme shortage of water and a heat that makes you unable to think clearly or make decisions!
Without backup from the outer world, only from the inhabited locations en route, this expedition will be self-supporting and year-round; active even during the heat of summer. All the previous great camel trips have taken place during winter.
Doubtlessly, this is the last remaining great adventure! Humankind´s final “impossible” challenge. Desert, heat, drought and lack of water are much harder to endure than the polar cold!
This will become an adventurous tale in words and images, by camera and recurrent reports on the Internet with HD-quality films, creating a global debate. We believe 150 000 readers will follow the Expedition daily. A tale that will provide deep insights into the life of the Arabs, knowledge and thoughts regarding the meaning of life. Everything, from the frugal existence of the nomads to Mohammar Khadaffi. Without doubt, one of the most important voyages of discovery of our time.
There will four persons participating in this expedition: two Bedouins, Salim and Nasr, an American-Asian woman Pamela and myself. All our thoughts, perspectives, insights and worries are part of the story; the span across cultures starts with us.
