Report 2 from Karakol, Kyrgyzstan
Report 2 from the International Co-Production of Kyrgyzstan-Sweden.
I have found yet another peaceful morning spot where I can have a cup of coffee. Instant only, unfortunately. Kyrgyzstan is not a strong coffee place. But it has been a very smooth ride so far due to great people around us, as Adilet and Alina.
Yesterday we left the steaming hot city of Bishkek, after having a wonderful first week cultural and physical acclimatisation, driving 7 hours to Karakol. An old Russian military outpost founded 1869. Today a sprawling holiday resort. Hiking and downhill skiing is the name nowadays. We have just arrived, rented the bottom floor of a house in the outskirts, in a laidback peaceful area for 50 bucks a night.
The idea is that we start hiking, a 3-day practise hike, on Friday. So we have lots to sort out before that. Like fining a backpack for Alina. Her first major hike. Change money. And most important, find good maps. It will be a long first day.
I just love being out in what I would consider the countryside. People smile way more than in Bishkek! They are friendlier, more down to earth and very respectful.
It takes a week to land spiritually and physically. Especially for the girls. Lots of adjustment. Having Alina onboard with us for the full time is a real hit. She has lived in Japan for three years, an educated film maker with plenty of productions behind her and has the ability to move smoothly between cultures. She is very open, intelligent, hardworking and curious on life.
