Climbing Chimborazo 1986

Alpinism? Climbing?

I am not sure. Whilst cycling from Chile to Alaska I decided to climb the volcano Chimborazo. 1986. 6310 meters back then, today 6263 metres. I had no money, no gear. So I hired two half crampons, the old rough edged ones, used mums knitted gloves and sweater. It was cold and windy. Most amazing of all, I climbed in tennis shoes. Nowadays people think they need the best gear to do things. What to say….the name of my guide was the legendary Enrique Veloz.
