Ecuador: The Country That Climbs is the next chapter in my 1986–87 bicycle journey from Chile to Alaska. It begins in the mud and hustle of Huaquillas, rises through banana plantations and the cobblestones of Cuenca, and peaks on Chimborazo (6,310 m). Then it drops into the Amazon along the Napo River, where my old jungle dream collides with reality.
