Är staden jag bor i korparnas hemvist?/Is my hometown the dwelling of the ravens?

English version:

For those of you who have followed my journeys since the early 2000´s, maybe you remember the odd relation and experiences that me and my partner Johan had with the Siberian ravens? (*1) During this year long journey me and my partner Johan Ivarsson got invited to a daughter of a famous Yukagir shaman who claimed that the ravens where our best friends and joined us for protection. Trust  them and things will go well for you, she told us. And they turned up everywhere during the journey and oddly enough, with back sight, it seems she was right. Or maybe the opposite, all depending if they came to us as a couple or by themselves. For this reason, when I first arrived to the city where I know live, I immediately realized that I have never ever seen as many ravens as here. And, listen to this, the other day when I was out running in what I think is the freest, most relaxing and including nature I have come across since Siberia, I had the great privilege to have the most amazing raven accompanying me for over half an hour. And this particular raven was like nothing else I have ever come across and offered sounds and a musical voice which mad me both stunned and worried and I thought:

”What in earth is the meaning of this?”

Obviously I know that the intelligence of the raven is high and legendary and at times I can imitate human language. And the musical parts of his singing to me whilst running was unparalleled of what I have heard before and an extraordinary experience. As odd was the fact that during this past weekend, which the family spent in a so called summer house belonging to the most generous, welcoming and warm couple I have ever met, Anda and Laila, well, we didn´t see one single raven. Most likely due to the fact that this binge eater, the raven (*4), knew there were no food around. But who knows the real reason. One thing is for sure, though, once in the midst of the great outdoors, one´s mind is rolling in new tracks and churning out thoughts never before experienced. N extra ordinary experience, but a bit frightening as well…

Almost everyday people ask us about how long we are going to stay in the town, is it just for a year? (*2) The original idea was to see how things developed for a year, especially as regards to the girls and their education, but as we all feel right now, we could well stay forever, we enjoy life that much here. But as usual, mistakes get done initially when new in town. The other week I wrote a report on Canada Goose jackets and the town we live in and people got upset and hurt. Mainly due to the fact that I called the town I live in now a settlement and of course this is utterly wrong. And of course it is a city measured by the Greenlandic reality. And, Facebook being what it is, one word wrong and people react, and in this case it was due to me showing great insensitivity whilst communicating with another Swede about what constitutes a town. People got upset. And I understand that, but it was not my purpose to hurt people’s feelings and I shamefully ask for forgiveness and it won´t happen again.

Finally, I´d like to mention the good news that RAL (Royal Arctic Line) and myself have agreed and settled my claims as regards to our equipment not being delivered as promised and overpricing without telling us the full price. I have to say I am impressed how swift, professional and helpful they have been and this promises a lot for the future. Thanks RAL.

Winter is still lurking around the corner, it is -5 degrees Celsius and there´s definitely a smell of snow. But I have said that earlier and our autumn has been dominated by wetness and warm weather. Aaah, another raven couple just sailed passed the window….(*3)
