Explorer Mikael Strandberg

A year since leaving Tasiilaq for the Icecap Crossing.

A year ago I took a small boat out from Tasiilaq and stepped onto the icecap. We skied, hauled, slept, repeated. No big drama. Just work. About four weeks on the ice with 70–80 kg pulks. Whiteouts, headwind days, some good days too. The job was simple: keep bearings, keep the stove running, look after your partner, look after your feet.
People ask what changed. Not much, and a lot. Routines got sharper. Decision-making got quieter. I came home with a better sense for what matters: preparation, small margins, and the discipline to do the next right thing.
I cut a short film from the crossing. It shows the reality: pace, weather, the daily system. If you have twenty minutes, I’d be grateful if you watched.
Thanks to Kensington Tours for backing the expedition, and to Åsnes, Jemtländer, Brynje, Taiga, Alfa, Helsport, MSR, Stanley, Ledlenser, Boldr and others who helped make the kit and logistics work. If the film speaks to you, share it with someone who likes honest expedition stories.
