Hanoi: Raising The Flag For Ho Shi Minh

The Bolshevik leaders where really, really good at using all tools of theatrical drama. And that is what I thought about when I saw the flag rising ceremony early morning outside the maosuleum of Ho Shi Minh, which we had visited the day before. Same dramaturgi there, you felt all emotions that were played upon. It was all well prepared. Same with the flag rising ceremony. And I enjoyed every second of it. It has to be experienced before these staged dramas are gone for ever. When I say staged, most ceremonies are obviously staged, but few as good as the flag rising ceremony in Hanoi. Best to see it on film though, see this clip from a series to come: (unedited, as you will see…..but it gives perspective)
