Operation om två veckor/Operation in two weeks

English version:

”It is possibly a tumor behind the eyes.”

It is the worst message I have ever received. Eva ended up at the hospital in Copenhagen a few days later. All thanks to that we were lucky finally finding a doctor who believed in us and that understood that something isn´t right with Eva’s eyes.

We´re back in Greenland now and Eva needs eye drops ten times a day and a few pills on top of that. What has happened?

Well, we have spent most of the past autumn worrying about Eva´s eye sight. One of the problems living in an isolated community in Greenland is due to the fact that there´s a new doctor sometimes as often as twice a month. I tried several times to get their attention for the problem, but they brushed it off us a problem with that she just needed glasses. So we tried to get her glasses, but due to her age 7 and the lack of opticians, it just didn´t happen. The nearest one was at least 3 hours in a boat away or 20 minutes by helicopter. We also thought it was just a question about glasses. But then Mogens, the doctor who believed us, turned up and Pam got upset and demanded help at the same time and a few days later we ended up in Copenhagen.

It turns out Eva has had a disease since birth that we didn´t know about. It is called juvenile idiopathic arthritis, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/juvenile-idiopathic-arthritis/symptoms-causes/syc-20374082, and in its evil wake other problems wander. In this case for Eva, an eye problem called uveitis, https://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1209891-overview, which means at this precise moment, Eva´s eye sight is under threat. Operation is waiting and we are taking one day at a time. Eva´s the one who is dealing with the situation best. She is a stoic, brave, intelligent, kind and the best of human beings. It seems hardest for me. I suffer badly. I love her so much!

The problems have nothing to do with us moving to Greenland. It just decided to happen here. We have no idea what the future will look like right now, but I am just very happy we are part of the Scandinavian community where we get all needed help when these things happen. As it should be for all human beings, everywhere.

This is the reason for my belated silence. And it might continue. But I need to share this.

As far as we know right now, there´s no tumor.
