Piteraq

Piteraq!

I got a message at 2.30 a.m in the morning from one in the group who is going to cross Greenland with me:

“I cannot sleep. I need to figure out the construction of the pulling of tires. Please send photos.”

I have another polar skier visiting me now. She is doing her first major Arctic crossing. We talk about piteraq, the northern wind. It has been one of the reason that Are Johansen and his client have decided to turn around on their attempt to cross the Greenland ice cap. I remember it well. And look forward to meeting it again! See link below.

Turning around after investing so much time and money, is a tough desicion. And costs is what I was thinking about when doing my run. Häckberga Runt. 23.5 km. Beautiful run. I came across at least 50 deer on the run. A beech forest at its best. But the complications and costs on doing these Arctic Expeditions are heavy. But I see it as an investment in life. That is how I saw it when I later in the day toook the girls to the forest, put up the teepee an slept out next to the fire. So needed. A fire, sleeping outdoors is the most pristine feeling one can have. As long as piteraq is not there!

“Skicka foton!” skrev hon.
