Mikael Strandberg

Letter from Mikael at the hospital in Nuuk

First of all I want to say thanks for the huge amount of well wishers. If I had known I would have gone for accident years ago! It has helped my disappointment a lot!
Secondly, I want to say someone worked the papers so the team can go on without me. It is a very strong team with Mikael Mattsson as the new leader. And they will get over on the other side. I will follow them closely of course! I hope you do the same! Some of my closest collegues have sent some extraordinary words of encouragement.
Thirdly, I have – of course- decided to return with a new team in two years. I want to put all focus on the Defender X Expedition now. And briefly on the Cycling Expedition with the best daughters on earth!
My life has been full of ups and downs on the extreme. And I have learned that the best way to deal with it is to eat the humble pie with passion, smile at life and get ready for the next “battle”. I have learnt that as long as you learn from your knocks of life, dont get bitter and understand this is how it is being a human being, life actually gets happier, more fulfilling and better.
And I will continue doing this until I stop kicking. I could have lost my life yes, but this is part of the job. Everyone around me accepts and know this. I was lucky to survive. And have some more great time with family and the greatest of friends.
As always, since the accident I have come across the warmest of people, from my team, the guy who hoisted me up, Nina Paninnguaq S. Kristiansen former boyfriend ( I remembered him from her Facebook posts) to Dr Steen Erik Holm. Another great Dane like Mogens Ole Larsen who saved the life of a family member.
Right now someone is helping me grt back to Malmö, where I will take a break in life. So see u in a couple of weeks..
